THE SURROUNDING AREA & AMENITIES
Les Garennes is located in the northwest corner of the Dordogne midway between Perigueux and Angouleme and close to the border with the Charente region. The typically French village of Verteillac is 4kms from Les Garennes. There you will find a very well appointed general store selling everything from groceries to television sets. Also, there is a traditional boulangerie, a butcher’s shop, a chemist, the post office, a bank, the tourist office and bars and restaurants.
The small villages of Lusignac and Bouteilles St Sebastien are both approximately 2.5 kms from Les Garennes. The bar / restaurant at Lusignac has an internet service and cycle hire and the bar in Bouteilles serves snacks and set meals during the season.
The closest large town is Riberac, 15 kms from Les Garennes. It has four supermarkets, several banks, a post office, chemists, tourist office, plenty of bars and restaurants, etc., and a traditional French market each Friday.
For dedicated shoppers, Perigueux and Angouleme old towns offer a good selection of designer shops, boutiques and department stores. Both have large out of town hypermarkets including Carrefour, Auchan and Geant.

SIGHTSEEING & DAYS OUT
The tourist office in Verteillac is worth a visit, but here are a few ideas and suggestions from Les Garennes:
The Perigord is an area steeped in history and here at Les Garennes you are right in the heart of it. From the pre-historic cave drawings at Brantome, to Gallo-Roman villas, and chateaux, there is plenty to see and do in this region.
Brantome, known as the Venice of France is 25 minutes away and well worth a visit. There’s a great choice of eateries and the town offers an alternative shopping experience. The working glass blowers shop has demonstrations, and there are a host of interesting and rather quaint shops and galleries – you may well find something different as a souvenir of your stay.
