This gite is part of a typical french farmhouse situated in beautiful, unspoilt countryside, enjoying fantastic views of rolling hills, corn & sunflower fields & a slow pace of life. The gite, lying between the owners farmhouse & a beautiful old barn, has been recently renovated to provide a high standard of accommodation, yet retaining all the rustic charm that you would hope to find at your french holiday home.
Inside, amazing oak roof timbers, beautiful stone fireplace, old oak floors, whilst outside there’s the large courtyard around which the numerous barns & pigeonnier sit, shaded by an old lime tree.The newly built 10m x 5m pool with roman steps has its own enclosed garden, with terrace, sun loungers, BBQ & dining area under a shaded pergola. There’s lots of space for the children to run, play area, 14ft trampoline, table tennis. Provides the perfect place to relax & unwind yet has plenty of things to do and see, ideal for a family or couple looking for a real french experience.
We run a smallholding and are attempting to be as self sufficient as possible - you and/or your children are welcome to help us look after our chickens, sheep and lambs (we're also hoping to have a couple of piglets later this spring)or give us a hand in the almost organic veggie patch!

Chez Devallon is situated on a hillside with spectacular views, We lie about 2km from the village of Nanteuil Auriac de Bourzac. Verteillac is close by for basic shopping requirements & bank, post office, bars/restaurants, doctor pharmacy, garage, tourist information. Just 15kms away is Riberac, renowned for its busy Friday market, or in the other direction, Villebois Lavalette, both having good supermarkets & other town amenities. Within easy reach is Brantome, a delightful riverside town with prehistoric caves, a magnificent Benedictine abbey & canoeing along the river, whilst Aubeterre, a beautiful hillside village with its Monolithic church, arty shops & river beach lies SW into the Charente. The cities of Angouleme & Perigueaux are both within an hours drive, offering an abundance of both sightseeing & shopping opportunities. Further afield take a day out to explore Cognac(70km), Bergerac (75km), the vineyards of St Emilion(80km), or visit the city of Bordeaux(120km).
Nearest Airports are Angouleme (1hr), Bergerac (1hr15), Limoges and Bordeaux (both about 2hrs).
Nearest Ferry Ports are St Malo at 480 Kilometres and then Caen and Dieppe and Le Havre (all about 6 to 7 hours drive) and Calais (about 8hrs30 to 9hrs)

Facilities include the pool, boules, badminton, table tennis, table football, swings & slide, 14ft trampoline, sandpit, trikes, BBQ, & 8 aces of grounds. We also have a large selection of books, games, toys & a DVD library (NB tv does not provide UK channels). To help you get the most out of the area we have put together a comprehensive guide with leaflets & lists of local events.
The area is ideal for anyone interested in cycling or walking as the roads are very quiet. We can usually fix people up with bikes if necessary. We have baby equipment that you can use during your stay. Cleaning during or at the end of your stay is available for an additional cost. A babysitting service is also avaiable.
Please be aware there is is a short flight of steps outside the gite before the front door. Please also note that there are stairs and low beams to reach the mezzanine bedroom - ideally suited for kids or agile adults!

The nearest village with bar, shop & boulangerie is under a ten minute drive & the small town of Verteillac is only slightly further, offering more facilities.
You will be ideally placed to visit all the beautiful sites in the Dorgogne & Charente. There are chateaux, prehistoric caves, & pretty market towns to meander around. Don't miss market day in Riberac (Friday) or you could go to Villebois Lavalette for their modest Saturday market under an incredible, old oak structure, - you can join in with the locals eating oysters with beer. Try canoeing along the river from Brantome, the little Venice of the Dordogne, or visit the beautiful village of Aubeterre with its monolithic underground church. Several river beaches are within easy reach where the children can play in the sand & swim or you could visit Lake Jemaye, where there’s a beach with bars & restaurants overlooking the waterfront, safe paddling & swimming areas.
