Are you searching for that away from it all place, yet not cut off from the world? Somewhere where you can hear the birdsong or on clear nights marvel at a sky full of stars, even see the Milky Way? Where you can relax or be active, where you do not trip over other people, but are not isolated? Look no further, but try LA PETITE MAISON, which is situated in a quiet hamlet, set in beautiful rolling countryside in the northern part of the Dordogne, the so-called Périgord Vert and within the Parc naturel regional Périgord-Limousin. It is a tranquil and peaceful spot, yet within easy reach of many places of interest. The surrounding countryside is ideal for cycling and walking and several sports facilities are nearby. The Périgord is renowned for its cuisine and here you will find good food at reasonable prices.
The hamlet of Les Pouyouleix is near the market town of Thiviers, which itself is between Limoges to the north and Périgueux to the south. In the nearby village of St. Jory de Chalais you will find a post office, a grocer, baker, butcher/charcuterie and a restaurant with bar, while Thiviers, a traditional French market town with a big weekly market, has four supermarkets, banks and numerous traditional shops, restaurants, bars and a cinema, etc. Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne, has excellent town-centre shopping and several hypermarket complexes on the outskirts, as well as a rich cultural offering, like the famous Roman museum Vesuna. Many pretty villages and towns, as well as numerous châteaux, colourful traditional markets and a diverse selection of cultural offerings are waiting to be explored.
Facilities
La Petite Maison sleeps five plus an infant; it has a kitchen/dining room, a sitting room with a selection of books, games, puzzles. The kitchen has a full gas cooker with oven, fridge, separate freezer, toaster, coffee machine, electric steamer, microwave,etc. The shower room with WC is on the ground floor. A traditional open-tread staircase (not suitable if you have problems mounting stairs) leads from the sitting room to bedroom 1 with a double bed. Bedroom 2, with 2 single beds and a single folding bed, is accessed through bedroom 1 (3 steps). A folding screen for privacy, a cot, high chair, pushchair etc. are provided. The roofed-over terrace has table, chairs and a barbecue. The large garden is mainly laid to grass with more seating, garden furniture, swing, sandpit,garden games. The solar-heated, fenced-in pool is shared with us - normally us 2; we tend to swim after 5 pm for less than an hour. Wifi access is available.
Activities
Canoing on rivers, "velo-rail" ('pedaling' on disused railway lines), treetop acrobatic parks, beautiful gardens and châteaux, famous prehistoric caves, like Lascaux or the enormous Gouffres de Padirac, abound in the area. Several swimming lakes with sandy beaches await you, if you do not want to miss that sand between the toes feeling. Brantôme, St. Jean-de-Côle, Hautefort, old Périgueux are just a few of the many towns and villages worth a visit.

- Travel Info: We are near the following airports: Limoges (60 minutes' travel), Bergerac (100 minutes), both served by Flybe and Ryanair, Brive (90 minutes) and Bordeaux (2 1/2 hours' drive). All have car hire facilities.

A deposit of 140 Euro per week booked for low season and 200 Euro per week booked in high season is to be transferred in Euros to our bank account. The balance is due on arrival, with a deposit of £100/100 Euro against damage. Details as per booking form, which will be sent to you on receipt of your inquiry. The rental price includes all linens, towels (kitchen, bathroom and pool), use of bikes (for adults and children), heating if needed, and the tourist tax.
