Sarlat - The Dordogne on your doorstep
With almost two million visitors a year it always comes as a surprise when our guests tell us that they had never heard of Sarlat before. Maybe that is because the French like to keep good secrets to themselves or that outside of France, the Travel programmes haven’t caught on to what the French have known for years about the largest medieval concentration of buildings in Europe.

The Courtyard Suite:
A double bedded duplex room split over two levels this charming room has unique views over the Cathedral from the Juliette balcony on the first floor.
The suite has an upstairs bedroom with King size bed, accessed by a wooden spiral staircase.
The en-suite shower and WC are situated on the ground floor. The suite also provides guests with a seating area and tea/coffee making facilities.
This room also has an independent entrance off the Courtyard.

La Lanterne Room:
This twin bedded room with views over the flower filled Courtyard and the intriguing Lanterne des Morts is situated on the first floor.
This light airy room has been decorated to make the most of the wonderful Dordogne light that floods in.
This pretty room with its matching wooden sled beds and soft colour scheme of creamy yellow and white has been themed around historic French fashion.
The room has a private en-suite with walk-in shower & WC.

The Wisteria Room:
So named due to profusion of Wisteria that can be seen from the window.
This double bedded room, with its Queen size wrought iron bed has been cleverly decorated to reflect the Medieval age of the house.
With a modern twist this delightful room provides guests with a feel of times past.
Beyond the Wisteria can be seen the old Palace du Justice with its stone roof and turrets together with views of the former Relais de Poste. With this view it's not hard to imagine days of old when the post from Bordeaux to Paris stopped here over night in order to stable tired horses and provide their riders of some much need of refreshment and a place to sleep.
The room has a private en-suite with walk-in shower & WC.

The Tapestry Room:
A double bedded room with Queen size wrought iron bed, decorated in a traditional style in delicate, relaxing hues of sienna.
In addition to the antique furniture, adorning the walls are Tapestries to help reflect the historic past.
This bedroom has two double windows overlooking the quiet, cobbled, alleyways that run between the Cathedral and the old market Square.
Of an evening, the streets and alleyways of Medieval Sarlat are lit by gas lamps throwing a warm yellow glow against the honeyed stone of the Dordogne buildings and houses.
The room has its own private en-suite with walk-in shower.

Facilities

La Lanterne offers its guests four beautifully appointed bedrooms, all ensuite with walk-in showers & WC. A shady courtyard is available for relaxed lunches or evening apero time.

Activities

Set a few kilometres from the sparkling Dordogne River this small town of honey coloured stone basks in glorious light and sunshine that blesses the region with wonderful seasons of plenty.
In the book,'A thousand things to do before you die' it mentions Sarlat's saturday market and canoeing on the Dordogne. This is your opportunity to leave only 998 remaining.
Prehistory cave-paintings put the region on the tourist maps many years ago. Soaring local castles echo the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart and recall the conflicts of the Hundred years war.
If you like your history more up to date you can visit the scenes of Nazi skirmishes against local partisans chillingly marked by silent epitaphs deep in the countryside.
Or you can just eat. Choose from 50 restaurants/bars/cafes within minutes walking time. Some good and some great. Ask us,...we know.
