Vacation Rental Description
‘Le Pain au Four’ at 'La Borie Haute'
Saturday changeover

Children under 18 are not accommodated.

Le Pain au Four is one of two cottages created from the original 200 year old farmhouse and barn, next to our home 'La Borie Haute' which was the original Pigeonnier.

We overlook the village of Trémolat some 1.5kms away, which is itself situated on the banks of the Dordogne River. On the edge of the small hamlet of Gréze, rolling countryside, valleys and woods surround us, with superb views and where bird and wildlife abounds. The access road to us serves only the hamlet with minimal traffic; it is a very peaceful location.

Le Pain au Four provides separate living and dining rooms on the ground floor, with original stone walls, beams and fireplace. The oak fitted kitchen is fitted with a gas cooker with electric grill and rotisserie, extractor hood, refrigerator with freezer compartment, dishwasher and ample storage facilities. There is also a WC. The ground floor is fully tiled, with French windows opening onto the terrace from both the dining and living rooms and this overlooks the swimming pool, garden and valley.

On the first floor, which is fully carpeted, there are two double bedrooms each with beamed ceilings. The smaller bedroom benefits from an en-suite fully tiled shower room, with WC and vanity unit, the second bedroom has a separate fully tiled shower room again with WC and vanity unit. Showers are thermostatically controlled and there are heated towel rails in each shower room. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and chest of drawers.

The cottage is furnished to a very high standard, mixing the best of French & English furniture and fabrics, blending well with the original features and creating a light airy and spacious ambience. Complimenting this is a range of quality glass & chinaware. The cottage has central heating if required, and a water softener.

All linen, with weekly change, towels, towelling robes, hairdryers, bedding, electricity, gas, constant hot water, welcome pack of local produce and wine are included at no extra cost.

There is a shared 11x6m heated even depth swimming pool set in a large attractive garden with wonderful views on all sides.

The following are all provided: For outside living - Pool towels, sun loungers, recliners, wooden table and chairs, cushions, parasols, 4 bicycles and BBQ plus charcoal and firelighters

The Perigord is a region of outstanding beauty and historical interest. The Perigord Noir or Black Perigord so called due to the black foliage of the numerous oak trees found here covers the region east of Bergerac and both sides of the Dordogne River. It possesses the most spectacularly sited castles, arguably the loveliest scenery and a fascinating past.

It is an area to explore and enjoy at a leisurely pace. Be it caves, of which Lascaux is perhaps the most famous, castles such as Beynac, Castelnaud or Biron, the walled villages – Bastides – of Monpazier, Domme or Beaumont, or the capital of the region, Sarlat with it’s medieval and Renaissance architecture, there is an interest for everyone.

And what better way to end each day than to indulge in the local cuisine, rich in duck, truffles and cepes, goats cheese and strawberries to mention just a few, with perhaps a bottle of Bergerac wine to assist the digestion. Whether you visit one of the numerous local restaurants or cook yourself using produce bought from the many outstanding village markets, you will not be disappointed.

Above all else it is a place of tranquillity, where the pace of life is slow and the air is soft – it is why we now live here and invite you to share the experience…..

Jane sitting outside Le Pain au Four Specialists in holidays without children for over 10 years

We have run our two cottages in this lovely part of the Dordogne for the last ten seasons. After being in the service industry collectively for 58 years prior to that, we pride ourselves on giving an excellent service and friendly approach to our guests. Many of our guests return year on year as they say they enjoy the ambience, peacefulness, immaculate cleanliness and quality of our properties, all saying they have never found better, and it really is a special place. Many comment on the sparkling pool which is maintained on a daily basis. The fact that we do not accommodate children under 18 allows us to provide Villeroy & Boch china, quality glassware, linen and furnishings, and not having children seems to be what attracted them to us when looking for holiday accommodation.

We recommend many restaurants in the area to our guests, two of which are our favourites; Chez Julien in Paunat is very good with ever changing seasonal menus in a wonderful setting. For something a little bit special we recommend the 'Tapas' lunch at Le Vieux Logis, which is our local Michelin starred restaurant. The 'Tapas' is not as in Spanish tapas; it is small tasters, for each course, of the most heavenly examples of local cuisine. Once you have been to either restaurant you will want to go again!

There are many historical sights close by and lots of little villages you will never tire of wandering around. There is also the rivers Dordogne & Vezere on which you can canoe or if you want to take it easy there are river trips which take you past some wonderful chateaux. Caves and prehistoric man are big here with the National Pre-historic centre at les Eyzies-de-Tayac which is quite spectacular. There is a local market to be found each day with local produce and what could be better than buying a spit roast chicken, potatoes and salad with strawberries for dessert then coming back to one of our cottages for lunch with a lovely bottle of wine, and relaxing in the blissful surroundings......!
