Vacation Rental Description
This charming cottage is situated in a secluded, elevated position, with commanding views of the beautiful Périgord Vert countryside. Located just off a small country road at the end of the village of St. Priest Les Fougères within a minute's walk to the village which has a bakery/general store, post office and garage. The atmosphere is of a thriving, friendly rural farming community.
St. Priest Les Fougères is conveniently located on the D79 just 2.5 kilometres from the main Route Nationale 21 at La Coquille, between Limoges and Périgueux. La Coquille is a small town, with post office, several bakeries and butchers, a bank (Crédit Agriclole), two hairdressers and two supermarkets. A medical centre with doctors and dentists. Plus a pharmacy. There is a Pizzeria and, a good restaurant at Les Voyageurs hotel, which is open to non-residents. La Coquille also has a main line SNCF railway station.
In the early Spring and during the Autumn, when the days are cooler and the wood burner is aglow the summer furnishings are replaced with easy chairs and tapestry curtains to provide a warm and cosy feel.
Leading from the kitchen on one side is the master bedroom with antique double bed and bathroom en -suite (jet-spray shower).
Another bathroom leads off from the kitchen with jet-spray shower and washing machine.
Up three steps to the other side of the kitchen/living area are two more bedrooms, one with twin beds and, adjoining, a children's room, sleeping 4.
All bedrooms have oak beams, are wood panelled, with picture lights and ceiling fans for summer days and nights. Wood flooring with scatter rugs. For early spring, autumn and winter oil-filled radiators keep the rooms warm and cosy. Both bathrooms have tiled floors, extractor fans and heaters.
The property sleeps a maximum of 8 people and is equally suitable for a couple with or without children, four adults, or a group of 8. With this size of group ideally the mix of people we recommend to be 4 adults and 4 children (including teenagers). Bearing in mind the children’s room has bunk beds. Please note that you only pay for the number of people staying at any time, including July and August. If you’d like family or friends to join you during the course of your holiday that’s not a problem, Let us know what your plans are and we adjust the amount to be paid based on the number of days the additional people are staying. The garden area - both front and back doors of the cottage open from the kitchen/living area on to a large garden area which surrounds the cottage. This is partially enclosed, but can be fully enclosed for families with young children or if you want to confine your dog from roaming too far. It’s particularly easy for people who may have problems managing steps, as you step out from the cottage at the same level into the garden. There is a barbecue, sun loungers, tables and chairs and umbrellas.
The lake is a short stroll from the cottage across our land which the renter is welcome to use and enjoy. It’s about a couple of acres in size allowing for a really good swim and a good sail. It nestles in a secluded, protected location and is very private. It’s wonderful for swimming in as the water is continually flowing in and out thus keeping it well oxygenated. There’s absolutely no chemicals or pollution. For keen fishermen it is also well stocked with carp, roach, rudd and perch. We keep a rowing boat and also a Mirror sailing dinghy for our guests to use (we do have strict rules about life jackets). There are two piers to fish from. And from the long pier it’s easy to launch the boats or use the steps when going for a swim. There is another barbecue at the lake side, plus picnic tables and loungers. So take a picnic down or enjoy an early evening barbecue lakeside. In the height of the summer it doesn’t get dark until 10pm.
