LOCATION: The property is situated near Issac - a little, charming, historic village in a beautiful part of the Dordogne, surrounded by lush, green countryside and many places of interest to visit nearby. It is worth taking “10,000 years historic path”, a guided tour of the local area. It takes several hours to complete. Very popular with trekkers, bike and horse riders, it includes visiting “remains” of the first wooden settlement in Europe, natural water reservoir and few local Chateaux, one of which is Château de Montréal built in 12th century by Pontbriant family and although it remains a private residence it is possible to visit between June and September. The tour begins by visiting the gardens overlooking the stunning Crempse Valley. Next, the chateau with its charming library in the round tower. The chapel is a classified, historic monument and shelters the reliquary of la Sainte-Épine, taken from the body of the British general John Talbot, killed in the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Talbot's heroic death was described by Shakespeare in his play Henry IV. There are beautiful stables and servants quarters, where you'll find the entrance to an underground section. One part still has lots of the original 12th century arches. It is very atmospheric. The next section is a large cave, which has been in use since pre-historic times. There are two tunnels hewn out of the rock here-one to the church and one to the village of Issac (original escape route for the chateau's inhabitants).
