Vacation Rental Description

This is the place to renew yourself! Spacious and very well furnished, the barn is situated on the edge of the village with wonderful open views over the Auvezere valley. The door to the back of the barn opens out onto a private terrace overlooking the garden and valley, ideal for al fresco dining. The pool is shared with the local hotel in Cherveix Cubas, minutes' drive away. There is also an excellent restaurant next door to the hotel/swimming pool. Ideally located to explore the region's rich cultural history i.e. prehistoric cave paintings, medieval castles, many excellent museums including Les Eyzies, Limoges and Perigueux. The very varied beautiful countryside offers something to do in every season - swimming, mushroom hunting and walnut harvest in Autumn. In the Winter truffle and local specialties. Springtime is beautiful with an abundance of rare wild flowers in a variety of habitats. Marked walks start from the barn; our local farm minutes away selling produce.

The barn is adjacent to an 18th century farmhouse with meadow and full organic vegetable garden. Guests are invited to relax on any of the three terraces, enjoy a snooze in the hammocks, have a barbecue next to the summer kitchen, which is adjacent to the barn. It is shaded by a magnificent fig tree (guests help themselves from September onwards) and has wonderful open views over the valley behind the property. There are lakes nearby where you can swim, or you may choose to swim in the hotel pool in nearby Cherveix Cubas, by arrangement with the owner. The barn was restored by a master carpenter belonging to the 'Compagnons' and has its own individually designed staircase. It also offers unique libraries in literature, film and jazz, reflecting the owner's taste. The region is very much appreciated by ornithologists and botanists. In the Autumn guests are invited to help themselves to the famous Perigord walnuts.

Speleology with qualified guide. Specific prehistoric sites of world renown, such as Lascaux and many other caves of interest, including the caves at Tourtoirac just down the road. The world museum of Prehistory is one hour's drive from the barn. Enormous choice of archeological sites of interest in immediate vicinity.
The Chateau Essendieras (5 mins. drive from the barn) has a championship 9 hole golf course open to the public and also a riding stables. The lake at Rouffiac has a beach and cafe. Canoeing down the river Auvezere available at Cherveix Cubas (5 mins. drive). The terrace in the meadow with its beautiful open view is an ideal spot for a barbecue!
