Beautiful chateaux to visit perch on the cliffs above the rivers Dordogne and Garonne, and caves go deep underground. The rivers themselves offer a wealth of water sports, canoeing, fishing, swimming, and bird watching, or just lazing in the shade of the trees with a bottle of wine, a French loaf and some local cheese.
There are museums, art galleries, potters, paper makers, silk painters and wood turners. There are prehistoric parks, water parks, animal parks amusement and technology parks. There is a whole village showing life ‘as it was’, aquariums, zoos, and farms. There are caves with paintings, caves with boat trips through underwater caverns and caves where people really lived. There are music festivals, classical, jazz, and modern or folk, medieval festivals, prune festivals and even oyster festivals! There are places to go to see how the regional produce is made, and then, of course, the restaurants where you go to eat it!

Jeff & Ali (Plymouth)
We spent 2 fabulous weeks in Lestoc during a hot and sunny August. Having been given lots of information from the owner we had no trouble finding it although the satnav was invaluable for travel in the surrounding area.

The house is perfect for unwinding and relaxing, the quiet and tranquility only broken by the odd jay or green woodpecker in the nearby woods. The house is clean, fresh and uncluttered, containing everything you need and more; the DVD player kept our three young children amused during their early morning starts! The kids (and adults) loved the pool, which also has a large area around it for sunbathing with lovely views of the garden, fields and woods beyond. The pool area is very safe for children with unobtrusive clear fencing and security gate. The local couple who service the pool were lovely and gave excellent advice on what to do and where to go.

There are lovely walks nearby taking in the woods - just minutes from the house we spotted numerous roe deer and even a pine marten. With a car essential, in around an hour we were at Beynac where canoeing the Dordogne is the best way to take in the stunning scenery (up to 4 in a canoe and very well organised). The cave drawings near Les Eyzies are also recommended and on a rare cloudy day a trip to Walibi Theme Park kept us all amused. Most of the local towns have markets with Issegeac particularly good and Bergerac also worth a visit. Even closer to home Eymet and Lauzun are lovely villages to while away an hour or two. The Carrefour supermarket just 10 minutes away in Eymet was well stocked and we were very impressed with the local restaurants where the quality was excellent (as you would expect in France) and also much cheaper than at home in the UK. For a bit of class Chez Alain in Issegeac is recommended and the pizzeria in Eymet was also very good but does get very busy.

This was our first visit to this part of France and first holiday away from the coast and we cannot wait to return.

Bruna (Vallejo, Calfornia)
My family and I stayed at this lovely property for a week at the end of September. The home was immaculate and exactly as described and pictured on the website. We have relatives in nearby Eymet so the location was perfect -- close to the family yet far enough to allow for some private downtime. In addition to the great location and property, the owner was very easy to work with.

A car is a necessity and we found it easy to maneuver about this part of France. There are many interesting towns near the property but would definitely suggest a ride to the wine area of Saint Emillon -- we live near the Napa Valley in California so we tend to be a bit "snobbish" about wine areas and we loved it there. The Dordogne area has numerous castles to explore, the city of Bergerac is beautiful and if you have time, pack a picnic and take a drive up to the city of Limeuil.

We hope to return soon!

Lestoc proved to be a tranquil and quiet location for two families with teenage children.

The house was large enough for us not to get on each others nerves was extremely well equipped and had all home comforts. The children particulary enjoyed the playstation during the midday sun, the games supplied added to their enjoyment.

The pool area was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The little extra touches of cushions for the sun beds and large parasols were really appreciated.

On arriving the house was clean and very well maintained with recently installed double glazing and window shutters. We arrived with eight bikes that we were delighted to be able to garage. We managed to cycle the quiet lanes daily, visiting little hamlets.

The information supplied by the owners was detailed and accurate and correspondence via e-mail was quick and efficient.

We stayed for a week in August 2010 and we think the best recommendation is that we are booking for 2 weeks next year.

Rod & Donia (Bristol)
Lestoc proved an ideal holiday let for our family - us, daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren. The house was big enough for us not to tread too heavily on each other's toes, was immaculately presented and, because of the tiled floors, very easy for us to keep tidy.
We loved the sheer size and isolation of the site. The house is not overlooked at all and we did not have to worry how noisy the kids were, or where they were - so everything was much more relaxed than has been the case in previous places. The grounds are positively seething with wildlife from bugs (fascinating to a 12 year old) to wild boar and, assorted falcons.

The Gasconnade in Lauzun was excellent - around a 1000 folk of several nationalities all eating together in the high street. Good food and wine and lots of it. If there was a whinge it was that the 12 year old had to pay as an adult (he certainly eats like one) but wasn't allowed any wine!

This general area is much less crowded than the 'real' Dordogne (Domme, Rocamadour, Montpazier etc) but has some really lovely places to visit - Bergerac, Issigeac, Montbazilliac, Bonaguil and many more. But the roads are, largely quiet - those around Lestoc itself are hardly used at all and were brilliant for the cyclists among us.

We did not eat out many times - an oldies treat to the Tour des Vent, double visits to Chez Alain (both excellent) and assorted light lunches.

Overall we had a marvellous holiday which we would seriously consider repeating.

Bob & Angie (Gosport)
We spent a week at Lestoc this summer, our second visit, and once again we were not disappointed, the house is spacious, clean and very well appointed, every mod con.
The property is set in a peaceful and secluded area, with a nice garden, a lovely pool Which was great On those really hot days.
Within an hour of the house there are some lovely places to visit, Rocamadour, Beynec-and-cazenac and Castling gageac to name but a few, the area also has some great restaurants.
We especially like the fact that change over day is Wednesday, as It allows us a few days to drive down and exploring on the way.
We had a great holiday once again, and we wil definitely be back in the future, many thanks to dave.

Your Home from Home in South West France

We have lovingly upgraded our villa over the last 10 years to what you find today and for 2010 it had a complete repaint and decoration inside and out. The pace of life takes its cue from the rivers nearby, and villages lie peacefully in the sun, offering a welcome to travelers as they pass through.

The architecture is mellow, houses built of golden stone, with tiled roofs, shutters closed against the heat, geraniums at the windows, are the usual, while you can still see homes in caves, ‘Troglodyte’ style in some places. This part of France was occupied by the English during the 100 years war, and the need to fortify the villages resulted in the style of architecture called ‘bastide’ that is so much in evidence locally. There are all sorts of attractions to go and visit something for every taste, and every variety of weather. There are golf courses, riding stables, and trails for bike riding. There are places to go to see how the regional produce is made, and then, of course, there are the restaurants where you go to eat it!

Wine is also a serious business, and you can visit both chateaux and more humble growers to see the whole process, just to taste, or to buy. This is not as famous a wine growing area as Bordeaux but St Emillion is only 40 minutes away, and the Pecharment and Cahors wine both have good reputations. The Bergerac winegrowers produce very drinkable reds, and the rosé is excellent, where as Monbazillac is famous for the sweet white wine, with the grapes still hand picked often as late as October.

'La restauration' is an important element of the French way of life and restaurants abound. They can range from the magnificent to the charming, small table d'hôtes where you sometimes even eat at the owners' table. Importantly, the general standard is high and, frequently, excellent value.
In Lauzun, the Lion D'or is good; nearby Eymet has several good restaurants e.g. the Pizzeria (excellent) and La Bastide in the main square and Les Vielles Pierres on the D.933 towards Miramont. In Seyches, Le Vieux Porche is excellent (our personal favourite) and the set menu options include a carafe of wine – closed on a Saturday! – best to book in advance 0553 83 60 11. There is even a Chinese and an Indian restaurant available in Eymet.
In nearby Castillones, the Hotel des Remparts and La Maréchallerie offer 'bonne bouffe' and in Duras there is the excellent Hostellerie des Ducs. In Issigeac, Chez Alain is good and, further afield, there are several excellent restaurants in Bergerac including L'Imparfait , Le Poivre et Sel and La Treille (which overlooks the river and old port).
At Monbazillac, la Tour des Vents is excellent and has superb views into the Dordogne valley and over Bergerac. And nearby, the Grappe D'Or serves great traditional Perigordine fare.
