Our Great Escape
We moved to Le Peynau in spring of 2007, in search of an idyllic way of life, and are enjoying every minute of our time here.
There are numerous local events, markets, and restaurants that we can recommend for your enjoyment. Here are just a few ideas to whet your appetite....
Markets - there's a market held locally everyday of the week. We particularly recommend...
Eymet's year-round weekly market, held on Thursdays in the medieval town square and beyond.
Issigeac's year-round Sunday market. It's busy, and plenty of delicious goodies to try before you buy!
Soumensac's local producers market, where you can purchase your lunch and enjoy the panoramic view every Sunday during July and August.
Restaurants - in this region, well-known for its culinary delights, you will not be disappointed with the gastronomic experience at our personal favourites...
Le Moulin de Malfourat - chef Marie Rougier prepares wonderful cuisine, and the restaurant boasts a great view of Bergerac.
La Cour d'Eymet - Michelin recommended restaurant. A great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Aux Treize Clochers at Monteton. This smart restaurant with beautiful views is a real treasure and can be found tucked away in a sleepy village surrounded by plum trees.
On a more personal note, this year we have become beekeepers (tutored by our French neighbour, Antoine). We have 3 beehives, named Tom, Dick and Harry, after the tunnels in The Great Escape. So, when we extracted our first honey it seemed very fitting to call it "The Great Escape".
We are keen cyclists, and find the undulating landscape of the Dordogne perfect cycling terrain. Further afield in France, and just before we opened for business this season in May, we conquered Mont Ventoux.
