Vacation Rental Description
Near to the pretty medieval town of EYMET, Le Chai is one of two gites at Le Peynau.

Our guests tell us that it's both the setting and the attention to detail inside the gites that makes our holiday accommodation so special. Both of our gites have been sympathetically converted from former wine-making buildings and retain much French character and charm. The grounds consist of a 2½ acre estate nestled among vineyards and sunflower fields in the Dordogne region of SW France. Le Peynau is situated just 20km SW of Bergerac and the Dordogne River and only 6 minutes from the medieval market town of Eymet where, along with an excellent range of restaurants and cafe-bars, you will find a choice of three boulangeries for your fresh croissants each morning.

Our larger gite, Le Chai, is superbly converted from the wine-making barn and offers superior accommodation for up to 6 people, with three bedrooms and 2 shower rooms. Our other property, as its name suggests, is a beautifully renovated, traditional Pigeonnier. The stunning, 200 year old, Perigordian tower can comfortably accommodate up to five people in 2 bedrooms.

The gites are available to let individually or together and are 150 metres apart, each with its own private terrace.
On-site facilities include a swimming pool, terrace for poolside dining, games courtyard with boules, ping-pong and pool table plus an area designated for ball sports. For guests wishing to simply kick back and relax, our 2½ acres of mature grounds are surrounded by the tranquil, unspoilt, wine-making countryside of the Perigord Pourpre, where wildlife and particularly birds of prey are in abundance. Le Peynau sits on its own, our nearest neighbour being about half a mile away.

We are resident British owners, Chris and Rachel Jones, and we very much look forward to welcoming you to Le Peynau and this wonderful region of France in the near future.

    Honey harvesting Our Great Escape

We moved to Le Peynau in spring of 2007, in search of an idyllic way of life, and are enjoying every minute of our time here.

There are numerous local events, markets, and restaurants that we can recommend for your enjoyment. Here are just a few ideas to whet your appetite....

Markets - there's a market held locally everyday of the week. We particularly recommend...

Eymet's year-round weekly market, held on Thursdays in the medieval town square and beyond.

Issigeac's year-round Sunday market. It's busy, and plenty of delicious goodies to try before you buy!

Soumensac's local producers market, where you can purchase your lunch and enjoy the panoramic view every Sunday during July and August.

Restaurants - in this region, well-known for its culinary delights, you will not be disappointed with the gastronomic experience at our personal favourites...

Le Moulin de Malfourat - chef Marie Rougier prepares wonderful cuisine, and the restaurant boasts a great view of Bergerac.

La Cour d'Eymet - Michelin recommended restaurant. A great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Aux Treize Clochers at Monteton. This smart restaurant with beautiful views is a real treasure and can be found tucked away in a sleepy village surrounded by plum trees.

On a more personal note, this year we have become beekeepers (tutored by our French neighbour, Antoine). We have 3 beehives, named Tom, Dick and Harry, after the tunnels in The Great Escape. So, when we extracted our first honey it seemed very fitting to call it "The Great Escape".

We are keen cyclists, and find the undulating landscape of the Dordogne perfect cycling terrain. Further afield in France, and just before we opened for business this season in May, we conquered Mont Ventoux.
