Vacation Rental Description
The Grape Escape, a well-equipped 4-person gite (self-catering holiday house) is surrounded by organic vineyards and offers fabulous views across the Dordogne valley. It is semi-detached from the main farmhouse facing onto the courtyard on one side and onto the vines on the two sides built out over the vineyard (scroll to the bottom for a photo).
'We had a fantastic week helped by the superb accomodation, the excellent location and the enthusiasm exuded by Seán and Caroline' Paul & Julie, UK.
A paved and shaded terrace, furnished with garden table, chairs, sunloungers, umbrella and barbeque leads into a spacious french-country kitchen and living area fitted with modern cupboards, new appliances (dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, cooker, washing machine) breakfast nook and separate dining table.
The grand room has five large double windows looking out over the vineyards and a forested valley. It accomodates a generous seating area furnished with comfortable sofa and chairs and a separate king-size (or single depending on the number of guests) bed. The second bedroom is furnished with two single beds (which can also be made up as a kingsize double bed) and a set of drawers. A very large bathroom (10m2 with bath, stand-alone shower, WC, basin and views) and a walk-in cupboard/ utility room complete the accomodation.
Fig trees, cherries, apricots, almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts are sprinkled around the property. Guests are welcome in season to pick the fruit - and some grapes too of course! Pleasant walks can be enjoyed around the 14-hectare estate. it is on one of the ‘grand randonnée’ routes of France for those seeking longer walks/hikes.
Bird watching and deer-spotting are excellent particularly at dawn and dusk. A small oak forest and picnic pasture provide great entertainment for young adventurers. The property is close enough to Saussignac village for you to collect your baguette / croissants on the bike (2 available) or on foot each morning (less than 1km). There is also a wonderful restaurant in Saussignac - no driving required!
Traditional french markets take place Saussignac village every Friday, and in nearby Gardonne (Sunday), St Foy La Grande and Bergerac (Saturday). The Dordogne is famous for its chateaux, fine food and wine. We are an easy 45 minute drive to St Émilion home of many Bordeaux grand crus and a great day out.
'Loved the gite, the views, the location and of course, the wine!' Cathy & Tony, Ireland
