Our delightfully sunny and spacious studio apartment sleeps 2 (+1 child), and is superbly situated within Gosau's prestigious VitalHotel with its great mix of sports and leisure facilities, which guests love after active or lazy days in the mountains. It's perfect for couples of all ages, winter and summer.

The main room has two sofas, a dining table and large sideboard at the front, and the beds and large wardrobe to the rear. There is also a kitchen and bathroom, and the balcony, which has spectacular views over the valley meadows to the Dachstein nearby and the ski slopes. In summer this is another super place to dine with the sounds of cowbells and distant church bells creating a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.

The hotel offers us and our guests free use of the pool and sauna, and specially discounted prices in the fine full-service restaurant. In winter there's a free ski-bus to the slopes 1km away. The hotel side has been refurbished to a very high standard throughout for the 2011 ski season, and is closing again in April and May for more work. Be one of the first to enjoy all the wonderful facilities there this summer!

The hotel is just 500m away from the village centre, and supermarket, local shops, Tourist Office, banks, bars, etc. Snacks, picnics and main meals can easily be prepared in our kitchen - when a night in is preferred to dining out. However with a good choice of local village, mountain top and lakeside restaurants, eating out is very tempting!

High up on the 3rd floor, our apartment's sunny, south-west facing balcony gets the sun from late morning and is a great place to return to at the end of the day.

Gosau is a beautiful valley in Upper Austria in the beautiful Salzkammergut lakes region, only 50 minutes away by car from Salzburg. It gets more than its fair share of snow and is replenished frequently through the season. It is popular with families with 130kms of Intermediate skiing and snow boarding, 75 lifts linking several villages, and 45 kms of cross-country skiing too.Ski and hiking trails start from the doorstep.

Hallstat, Europe's prettiest lakeside village (protected by UNESCO) is only 10 minutes away. There are other lakes with other attractions nearby, too, for boating, lake swimming, fishing, etc, and the rivers offer exhilerating activities such as tubing and white-water rafting, as well as fishing!

Back at the apartment a lift and stairs serve all floors leading to the restaurant and bars, games room and health spa facilities, and many other leisure facilities. The main room has two single beds with bedside drawer units and reading lamps. There is a large wardrobe with hanging space and internal shelves.

Two comfortable sofas, two small coffee tables, a standard lamp with dimmer, and a sideboard with TV/ DVD player complement the living area. A dining table and two cushioned dining chairs complete the main living area of the apartment.

Separate from the main room is the kitchen, fully equipped with two hot plate cooking hobs, a refrigerator with small freezer compartment, microwave, griller, toaster and electric coffee maker. The separate bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, washbasin, toilet, shaving point, electric socket and electric heater.

A glazed door leads onto our private balcony on which there is a light and electric socket. In summer balcony furniture is supplied with a clothes drier.

The whole of the apartment is a non-smoking, pet-free area.
The storage heaters keep the apartment warm and cosy when it's cold outside, and there is always a good supply of hot water at the end of an active or relaxing day.

The hotel has a wide range of 4-star leisure amenities available to our guests. The restaurant offers an extensive menu and a wide ranging buffet style breakfast, although the hotel does ask that advance notice is given. Please pay the hotel direct for any meals taken. A well stocked bar is also available. Other amenities in the hotel include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, a games room and sun beds - free for our guests. Also available for a small charge is the use of the indoor tennis court, fitness studio, steam room and bike hire. Crazy golf and sun beds are also on hand. In winter there are facilities in the building for storing skis and boots. A bus collects skiers from the hotel to take to and from the ski slopes, 5 and 10 minutes away. There is ample free car parking space available within the grounds of the hotel. The local authorities keep the roads snow-ploughed and gritted.

Two express covered ski lifts take you to the top of the slopes from where many other ski runs start. It is possible to ski right back to the bottom of the ski lifts. An extensive range of ski equipment can be hired. Ski passes can be purchased.

As well as skiing there's 40km of Langlauf tracks (cross-country) throughout the valley floor. They're carefully maintained by state of the art equipment. Route maps are available and they are also on notice boards placed along the routes. Langlauf skies and boots can be hired. There is ski school there which offers group or private lessons for all types of skiing and snowboarding.

Wide walking tracks in the snow are maintained throughout the magnificent scenery of the valley allowing wonderful walking.

There are many activites available within the spectacular scenery. Ice caves, salt mines & castles are nearby. And Salzburg is only 50 mins away - that's 'The Sound of Music' country!

• Travel Info: We recommend having a car. Car hire is available at Salzburg airport (60 kms), which is only 45 minutes drive on good roads. Free parking is available for our guests. There is so much to do and explore around Gosau that a car is essential for exploring at your own pace when the snow has gone: Many lakes with beaches and trails, the Ice Cave, Salt Mine, lakeside towns and villages, beaches, boat trips. However, if you intend to spend your time walking in the mountains - 400 kms of marked walking and cycling trails begin at our front door - it's best to use the bus. You can fly cheaply to Salzburg with Ryanair, EasyJet and others, then hire a car.take the bus from there.

We have flexible change-over days. The apartment is available for short breaks (min 4 nights) at a charge of €45-49 per night, excluding Christmas/New Year (Special rates). 10-14 nights = 5% discount Local charges: Our weekly rental charge is exclusive of an 'End of stay cleaning' charge of €30 which are payable direct to the hotel Reception on arrival. Bring your own bed-linen and towels and save on extra hotel charges: Linen €9 per bed, and/or Towels €6 per ser per person. Some guests like to bring their own, and cut costs. A Tourist Tax charge of €1.30 /adult /day will also be collected locally. A deposit is required at the time of the booking with the balance due 6 weeks before departure. A cancellation made within 6 weeks of arrival may result in the forfeit of the deposit. Payment can be made by PayPal, or by bank transfer in Pounds Sterling or Euro (to our Austrian bank account).
