Vacation Rental Description
Villa Tekla is a lovely and unique three-level Spanish-Moorish hacienda, an eco-friendly home designed for the tropics, on 5 acres of forest and landscaped grounds, with ocean and mountain views, set well off the main road. It has extensive patios and is fully furnished, and can easily accommodate three couples or one or two families traveling together.
The spacious pool-level room has bath and king-sized bed with private entrance accessed by outside staircases. The main floor is open-plan with living, dining, and kitchen areas surrounded by wide arched windows protected by artfully crafted Spanish grillwork. The main-floor bedroom has a king canopy bed. The top floor has a king-sized bed that can be easily converted into two single beds and the views from here are spectacular. Large tiled patio with charcoal barbecue. We maintain a 200-book library
The property is 3 km from the thriving tourist town of Quepos and an easy walk or drive to the sweeping tourist beaches that continue on and into Manuel Antonio National Park. Several smaller and more private beaches can be accessed, and we can provide directions to them. Though at nine degrees latitude, the climate is benign, with gentle breezes on our hilltop site, the temperature ranging in Fahrenheit from the low 70s to the mid-80s, depending on the season.
This house is owned by Canadian novelist William Deverell (http://www.deverell.com) and is available at reasonable rates -- this is not a profit-making enterprise; we merely charge enough to maintain the property and pay for utilities, fees, upkeep and our staff, Rebecca Wells, our bilingual house manager and neighbour (phone 506-2777-1981 or 506-8309-0944), and our maid and our gardener and pool maintenance person, all who come twice-weekly. Their salaries and all utilities are included in the rent, as are cable TV and wi-fi broadband.
This was an unspoiled paradise in the 1980s, when we discovered it. Arguably the area boasts the finest collection of beaches in the tropical world. Manuel Antonio now sparkles with luxury hotels, homes and condos and is fast becoming a rainforest riviera
Support a healthy, green environment: We are contributors to several environmental organizations and particularly invite naturalists, birders, and those concerned with keeping our planet green and healthy, and we support the Costa Rican government's initiatives to this end. So we offer a 15% discount to other such supporters. We have lived part time in Costa Rica since 1980, and can help renters with most if not all of their travel plans and we have a wide knowledge of the country's tourist areas, parks, and particularly local attractions. Renters should not hesitate to ask questions. For those interested in flora and fauna: coatis, sloths, tree iguanas, anteaters, squirrels, colorful frogs and geckos, and other fauna visit our forested areas from the National Park. At night the lawn below the house twinkles with fireflies. Wake up to the reverberant trumpeting of howler monkeys, to a serenade of tanagers, thrushes and flycatchers, and colorful songsters galore. All while you enjoy our 25-meter lap pool.
We also offer a 15% discount to writers and visual and sound artists.
William Deverell, BA, D.Juris, the award-winning Canadian crime writer, and his life partner, Tekla Deverell, M.A., a counseling psychologist, are long-times residents of British Columbia's Gulf Islands, and they also live and work much of the year in this villa in the fast-developing tourist Mecca of Manuel Antonio.
