Vacation Rental Description
This condominium has been owned by our family which has been enjoying the magic of Sapphire for over half a century. It was largely renovated and offered for hire for the first time in late 2007. The condo is located just minutes from Red Hook where you can find groceries, restaurants, shopping, and access to the ferries which can whisk you away to St. John or the British Virgin Islands.
From the condo's front door it is but a hundred and fifty steps to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. From the beach you can see some of the British Virgin Islands as well as St. John. Because the unit is on the lower level, when you arrive, you park at the rear of the unit and bring your luggage and groceries into the unit by walking about ten meters and up four steps, rather than lugging them around to the front of the building and up a long flight of stairs. Additionally, because one member of the family is wheelchair-bound, a small ramp has been added at the front for wheelchair access.
The unit maintains its original floor plan except that the original front porch has been enclosed and now expands the already large living/dining room, and a large fenestration has been cut between the kitchen and the living/dining area.
The unit includes a front-loading washer, and matching dryer (new in late 2009). For drying wet towels and such there is a solar powered "clothesline" just outside the rear door. There are two tellies and "expanded digital cable" (a total of approximately one hundred channels) and Showtime are included. Local land line and Wi-Fi internet access are also included. In addition to the "common" Wi-Fi access. the unit has its own router for excellent connectivity throughout the entire unit.
In late 2007, the unit was "stripped", repainted, partially redecorated, and many improvements made. The following were replaced with brand new units: refrigerator, gas oven/stove, air-conditioner compressor, all ceiling fans, bedroom mattress, front and rear doors, front windows, shower fixtures and almost all kitchen utensils and small appliances. In late 2009 in conjunction with the installation of the new washer and dryer, the air-conditioner air handler and all ducts were replaced.
Reupholstered furniture was obtained to replace almost all of the living room furniture. bed was re-painted. The original "Futon" has been reupholstered. There are two DVD players, a VHS unit, and two stereo systems.
The locks have been removed from all closet doors. We do our best to keep "starter supplies" of non-perishable essentials in the unit so that you will not have to begin your stay by buying things like coffee filters and dish detergent.
To ensure continued enjoyment by all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted.
Please note that the rates are higher than those shown below during "prime times such as Easter, and other popular holidays.

SHORT STAYS: Condominium regulations require that rentals be for a minimum of three nights.
LONG STAYS: Except for "prime times" stays of ten days and longer will be discounted on an individual basis.

We have a modest libraries of CDs (approximately 50), DVDs (approximately 140, as well as a modest traditional library ("books") (approximately 190.. Also a few board games and jig-saw puzzles.
Although small, the kitchen is fully functional. Sorry, no dishwasher until we expand the kitchen. Cooking utensils provided. New dishes, glasses and flatware in 2007. Bar-ware. All the small appliances that we could think of except a toaster oven. Microwave is small, but powerful. Charcoal grill (please observe all condominium fire-safety regulations).
Loads of closet and drawer space, although you will need to bring very little clothing. Loads of linens and towels. Masks, snorkels, and fins Tennis rackets and balls (not for the serious). We endevour to have everything you need in the condo so that you will only have to bring some clothing, swimsuits, toiletries and, if necessary, medications, and purchase only food and beverages on island.

The condominium supplies high quality beach chairs in several styles.
There is a shared salt water (NO CHLORINE!) pool not distant from the rear door.
Although the unit can sleep seven, condominium regulations limit the number of occupants to five. This excess capacity, however, allows additional flexibility in sleeping arrangements.
