Vacation Rental Description
Stay on a beach with hammocks in a tropical paradise, where the annual temperature extremes are 65°F (18°C) to 96°F (36°C). The kitchens are redone and fully appointed with electric oven, microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishes, glasses, stainlessware, utensils. I can also offer side-by-side units. All units are on the second floor, overlooking the beach. This offers security and privacy unavailable on the beach level units. At night, leave the balcony doors, and screened (locked) front door open and let the ocean breezes and sound of the waves sweep over you. It will lull you to sleep on a new "Heavenly" mattress for a sleep that will help an aching back. There is also a sofa sleeper in each unit.
Please note that there are other units available on the beach which have not been redone in 35 years (including the mattresses), which can be had for half the price. As of this time, less than a quarter of the units at the complex of 5 buildings on the beach (100 units) have updated appliances and bedding. There is also a different complex on the bluff well above the marina, which calls itself Sapphire, but they are not beach units, and most are not redone.
The overlook to Sapphire Beach is a marked site seeing stop for island tours. The beach is a daytrip adventure for cruise ship tours. But as a renter, you can enjoy it all in comfort for more than the few hours these tours allow. Bring a book, swimming suit, shorts, snorkel gear, and sunscreen to enjoy volley ball, beach hammocks, the views of islands, sail boats, iguanas, ducks, tropical fish and the occasional sea turtle just a few steps from your condo. There is a food and beer concession between Units "B" and "C". There is a dive shop on the beach. The marina has fishing tours, scuba diving tours and instruction, snorkelling tours, and daytrips to other country's territories.
Taxis are available on a per person, flat fee basis. Discuss the rate each time with the driver. There is also a car rental agency on the property. Remember, drive on the left side of the road! The entire island is 22 miles long and 3 miles wide, but a car trip to Reinholt Center at the University of USVI for a show will take an hour. A trip to the west end Rasta market on the last Sunday of the month may take two hours to get there. Bring a Reggae CD, or tune into 104.7.
Red Hook is a small town about a mile away with a grocery store, shops, laundry, bars and restaurants. It is also the location of the car and the people ferry to St. John Island. Greet the people with a "Good Morning", "Good Day", or "Good Night" and expect some small talk. Waiting is a way of life on the island. A brusque attitude is considered rude, and you will just wait longer. The island will make you slow down, so accept it and relax.
Wi-Fi is available for a daily or weekly fee. In my one luxury unit, wi-fi is included on a private (and much faster) line. Condo rentals are available daily, weekly, and monthly.
