Directly on the ocean, a rare chance to rent a newly restored, antique British Colonial Vacation House, in Salt Cay. With spectacular ocean views to the west and calming salina views to the east. The Half Way House is situated, in the heart of historic Balfour Town, in walking distance to 2 restaurants, a grocery store and the island dock, yet secluded and private.Newly restored, with great attention to quality and detail, the house offers beamed ceilings, ship knee supports, wood lined walls and multiple large shuttered doors. In keeping with the original origins of the house, it is decorated with antiques, and historical tropical decorations. The house is elegant and stylish, and abounds with comfortable lounging areas indoors and out. Read in the ocean front gallery, or relax on the east veranda, the house and grounds are private and spacious.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the ocean side covered patio, watching the sun glint off of the water, or upstairs, in the great room, catching the views of both the sea and salinas, while the sensual, tropical, trade winds, breeze through the house. The Half Way House is designed to captivate, charm and relax you.

Facilities
The Half Way house has a covered ocean front deck to the west, and a porch view of the salinas to the east. The kitchen is new and modern, as are the 2.5 bathrooms. Grocery stocking service comes with each rental. Private chef available. Ceiling fans in all 3 bedrooms, large window and door openings, keep the sea breezes flowing through and cooing the house.
Activities
The Half Way House offers whale watching from the house, from Jan. thru March, when humpback whales pass by Salt Cay, on the way to their mating grounds.
2 Bicycles come with the house rental.
Scuba diving and snorkeling available, as well as boat tours, and a ferry to Grand Turk, the capitol of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Please add 11% Turks and Caicos rental tax. 50% deposit due on booking. Remainder due one month before travel. Deposit is non-refundable, if we are unable to rent your reserved time period. Rates include pick up and return to and from the airport.

May 2011: I have just returned from a week at the Half Way House on Salt Cay Island. I can't say enough about this one-of-a-kind property! It was clear to me, from the moment I walked in, that Holly and Rick have restored this historic house with patience, a commitment to its historic roots and attention to detail. While I appreciated the integrity of the original pieces preserved in the home, I absolutely loved the fact that it was decorated in colourful, contemporary colours and had both modern and antique furnishings, making me feel right at home! It's always a treat to have "all the comforts of home" in your vacation spot and this is the case with the Half Way House - dishwasher, high-speed internet connection, flat screen TV with access to current programming. Because it backs onto the ocean (west) and fronts on the east, the constant breeze sails through the house from morning to night. Air con is therefore not necessary - my bedroom windows, aided by the ceiling fan, provided the ideal natural coolant each night! Spotlessly clean, great reading materials, magnificent views from the front (the historic salt pools) and the back (the Caribbean Ocean!!) made my daily question "Where shall I read, front or back", the most complex decision I had to make! As for Salt Cay Island, it is perfect for those seeking a quiet, relaxing getaway without the commercialism of most touristy resorts on other islands. As for me, I'll be back. The Half Way House will be my accommodation of choice! Cheers, Sandra

We are antique dealers, originally from Canada, who now have an antique store in Palm Beach, FL. We love the Caribbean and antique houses. We were not looking for a property when we tripped across the house, with the magnificent sea views, high tray ceilings and hand planned wood walls. The island of Salt Cay, with its friendly and individualist locals, clinched the deal. Six years later the house is completed, the journey had many twists and turns, joys and frustrations, it has been a labor of love, and well worth the effort. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to bring some of the history of Salt Cay, back to life. It is time now to share the life, with the islanders and future guests of the Half Way House. We are offering a one of a kind experience, in a one of a kind house, on a one of a kind island. Please come and enjoy.
The island of Salt Cay, is rugged, beautiful, and individualistic. While it has the popular activities, such as beaching, diving, snorkeling, biking, and touring, it offers much more. The pristine beaches, azure colored ocean, deep, starry nights, 18th and 19th century Bermudian buildings and ruins, fill the soul. Salt Cay can be magical and enchanting, it appears suspended in time, untouched by the modern circus of large, orchestrated, corporate resorts. The island of Salt Cay is one of the last holdouts of the old Caribbean, no Club Med here...tranquil, peaceful and serene, from the free roaming donkeys and cows, to the warm and welcoming locals, the island is all about individuality and character.
