The Lodge at Gates Lane
This seven bedroom farmhouse circa 1830 has been totally restored and is available for your summer or winter retreat in beautiful Nova Scotia.
The Lodge at Gates Lane is situated on 40 acres of fields and woods, bordering on the Sissiboo River. There is plenty of fresh water for swimming and boating at high tide. When the tide is low, there is a small current and the depth is between 2 and 4 feet.
The Lodge is the original house built by the Gates family who settled the area. Over 100 years ago, 4 masted ships plied the waters of the Sissiboo River and berthed at docks across the river from the house. The other home on the lane, also an old Gates home, is the base for Hinterland Adventures. From here, Hantford and Ann Lewis lead a variety of kayak and canoe trips ranging from an afternoon, to a full week of back country adventure.
The house features a large eat in kitchen, dining room with table to seat 10, living room, play room and bath/laundry room with washer, dryer, shower and toilet on the main level. Upstairs is another full bath with a claw foot soaking tub and six bedrooms. One has two double beds, two have both a double and single and the other three bedrooms each have a double bed.
There are three decks situated around the house. One overlooks the front gardens, the greenhouse, and the river. The second, with access from the kitchen, is nestled into a rock garden and looks down through apple trees to a small creek which winds behind the back gardens. The third deck, flanked by a hill and wildflower gardens, looks toward the lane
Weymouth is a quaint village founded on the shores of the Sissiboo River in 1783 by United Empire Loyalists. At the time of the sailing ships, Weymouth, Nova Scotia was a hub for area shipping and boat building. The Weymouth Historical Society has restored St.Thomas Anglican Church for use as a museum and cultural centre. Every Thursday afternoon from June to September, afternoon teas are held.
Today, Weymouth is a quiet village with a special interest in lumber and fish. It is only 20 minutes from Digby, 45 minutes from Yarmouth and 3 hours from Halifax. If you like whale watching, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, antiquing, swimming or just relaxing, it's all here.
The town of Weymouth is only two miles away from The Lodge and provides all necessities. There are two grocery stores, a bank, liquor, drug and hardware stores. There is a doctor's office in town and the nearest hospital is only 20 minutes away in Digby..
Easy day trips from The Lodge at Gates Lane include many historic towns ( Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Annapolis Royal are just a few ), National Historic Sites such as Port Royal and Fort Anne, Kejimikujik National Park, beautiful beaches, scenic fishing villages, seaside and inland hikes and championship golfing.
