Vacation Rental Description
A beautiful historic Cape located on an island off of the coast of Chester overlooking Mahone Bay. Enjoy peace and tranquility, spectacular sunsets, lovely gardens, shoreline trails and great ocean views. The house sleeps 8 comfortably with all the conveniences. The island is serviced daily by a government ferry. Our island retreat is locatedin a secluded fishing village that offers beachcombing, walking trails, deep water mooring, government wharf and a ferry ride to Chester's yacht club, theatre, patisserie, restaurants and shopping. This house was built in the late 18th century and still has some of its amazing original features. In the spare bedroom the 200 year old decorated wainscotting has been preserved and adds a real sense of history to the room. There is an original bake oven and fireplace in the living room along with aged wide pine board floors and an old built-in Nova Scotia Dresser. Much of the glass in the old windows is original and certain. The Kitchen and Bathroom have all the conveniences. The Bathroom has a small tub and shower, and comes equipped with a washer spin dryer. The Kitchen has a fridge, stove and microwave and is well stocked with all the essential staple items. A charcoal BBQ is located on the covered deck. The house has ample sleeping for 8 with a king size bed in the master bedroom upstairs, and a single bed and pull out cot in the other upstairs bedroom. Downstairs there is a spare room with a double bed and a three quarter size bed. This room has its own entrance to the bathroom and is ideal for those that would find the stairs challenging. In the living room there is a very comfortable pull out queen size bed and an abundance of extra linens.  
 
There are absolutely no stores on the island and you must bring all necessary food items with you. The basic food staples and the necessary daily items from dish soap to toilet paper are included. There are lots of fresh towels. 
 
The ferry will take all cargo free of charge, but you will leave your car on the mainland and all groceries and supplies will be placed in the large metal boxes or the wooden trays to be hoisted onto the boat.  
In the harbour, there is a deep water mooring and tender for your use.  
In the village of Chester you will find that there is a very well stocked Grocery store (Save Easy), Pharmacy, Patisserie/Bakery, Liquor store, Tavern, Restaurants, Playhouse (featuring both local and well known talent), Hardware store, and Gift Shops.  
 
Big Tancook is generally the second stop on the ferry run from Chester except on Friday evening. Just ask to be sure. Travel between the islands is free and Big Tancook is an interesting afternoon trip. There is a canteen (Carolyn’s) and a great local craft shop (Popplerock).

    • In Chester there are several great restaurants like Niki's, The Foc'sle, and The Rope Loft and a wonderful Bakery called Julien's. There is also a local playhouse showing live productions throughout the summer. Just a short drive from Chester there is lots to be seen. Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are just a 20 minute drive and the wharf is only 45 minutes from Halifax. There is a beautiful scenic seaside drive all along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The ferry leaves the island and returns several times daily. The Ferry schedule is as follows: Leaving Little Tancook Leaving Chester Monday to Friday 6:15 am 7:10 am 7:45 am 10:30 am 1:45 pm 3:40 pm 4:45 pm 5:30 pm Friday (Additional Runs) 6:45 pm 8:30 pm 9:05 pm 11:00 pm Saturday 9:00 am 1:00 pm 6:00 pm 7:00 pm Sunday 9:00 am 10:00 am 5:00 pm 6:00 pm The ferry is a $5 cost for a return trip of you can buy a book of 10 tickets for $20.
