General:
International surfers flock to catch the legendary waves in this, a paradise of sunshine, aloes, dolphins, shells, perfect points and classic reefs. Visitors who found it hard to leave such an idyllic spot have turned Jeffrey's Bay into a year round fun place to be, creating a thriving local craft industry besides the surf shops on just about every corner.
Travel:
Jeffreys Bay is located about 50 miles / 80 km from Port Elizabeth and Port Elizabeth Airport. Measured in travel time this is just about an hour's drive. Should your east bound 'Garden Route' journey along South Africa's south coast finish in Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay makes a very good penultimate stop. Alternatively, it's a very good first stop if you're travelling west along the 'Garden Route' towards Cape Town!
Nature:
The bustling town is bordered on both sides by nature reserves and rivers including the Kabeljous and Seekoei Estuaries. Within Jeffreys Bay is the Noorsekloof nature reserve. Soak up the sunshine, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and have a wonderful stay.
What to do:
Jeffreys Bay has loads to offer. Having featured in the timeless surf movie classic 'Endless Summer' (where 'J-Bay' featured as having one the finest right hand surf breaks in the world) surfing is obviously a major draw card.
However, only a short 45 minute drive away is the St Francis Links - a spectacular and challenging world class golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus - www.stfrancislinks.co.za -
Moreover there are a number of adventure activities including horse riding and hiking. For more detail on this visit the local tourism website - www.jeffreysbaytourism.org -
Shopping:
A wide variety of shops reflect the diversity of local talents. A good selection of coffee shops, fast food take-aways and restaurants cater for most culinary requirements, from formal to barefoot on the beach. Seafood is a must!
The brand new and modern Fountains Mall caters for all sort of tastes - from esoteric curios to clothing, food, movies and everything in between.
