Located on the southern shore of the Garden Island of Kauai, Poipu is a small, exclusive beach community with white sands and tranquil waters. The area has the distinction of being recognized by Worth Magazine as one of the 250 wealthiest cities in the United States. Poipu was one of only two cities in the Hawaiian Islands on the list. Poipu is known for its exceptional climate plus a string of beautiful white sand beaches. It's a place where swimming, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving are ideal the year round.
Poipu Beach is an ideal location for families due to its large, protected bay and is the only beach on the south shore that is life guarded. The adjacent Poipu Beach Park has large grassy areas, a childrens playground, covered pavilions and public restrooms. It’s an ideal location for picnics or sun bathing. Forgot your picnic? No problem! Brenneckes Deli is just across the street and has everything you’ll need.
The South Shore is known on Kauai as “sunny Poipu” due to almost continuous sunshine with very few raindrops. Temperatures normally vary from a mid seventies low to a mid eighties high in the summer. In the winter temperatures drop to a low in the mid to high sixties, with highs are in the mid to high seventies.
Poipu Beach was named the number one beach in the United States by Dr. Beach. It has also been named number one by the readers of Travel and Leisure Magazine. Poipu provides a picturesque vacation spot with a quaint beach atmosphere.
Nearby in Koloa Town, visitors may feel like they've stepped back into the late 1800’s. That's because the first sugar mill in the Hawaiian Islands was established in Koloa in 1848 and the small town grew up around the mill. If island visitors are seeking leisure or activity, Poipu and Koloa Town provide something for everyone.
The charming Poipu Shopping Village, with its art galleries, numerous restaurants, grocery and sundry store, clothings and jewelry stores and surf shop is less than a kilometer away. The immediate area offers something for everyone including walks on Poipu Beach, picnicking in covered picnic pavilions, romantic sunset sails, ATV rides, zip lining, helicopter adventures, Hawaiian luaus, snorkel cruises, horseback riding, hiking, surfing, scuba diving, wind surfing, golfing and more.
