Right next to the river Lot lies the small town of Puy-l'Évêque, the ideal location to find a perfect self-catering cottage for your French vacation.
Surrounded by the rolling hills of the Valley of Lot, Puy-l'Évêque boasts endless opportunities for hiking and biking around the stunning French countryside. It's location right next to the Lot river also makes it a great place to fish, with fishing available both in the river and in local lakes. Puy-l'Évêque also has the Fète de la Rivière et du Vignoble, a fishing competition and celebration of local wines held every two years (2010, 2012, etc).
Puy-l'Évêque is ideal for a self catering holiday in France, with it's many supermarkets and local markets available. The area also boasts over 300 wineries in the area.
You're just down the river from the town of Cahors, which features the famous Pont de Valentré, a bridge that is said to be the most photographed sight in France outside Paris. You can also visit the twice-weekly market to pick up some of the local produce. If you like the area you can even try a privately owned Gite in Cahors.
There are also several small villages for you to explore, including the beautiful Bagat en Quercy, featuring private rental cottages that you might like. Also nearby is Montcuq, with some great self-catering farmhouses.
