About Denmark:

Are you considering a holiday rental in the Kingdom of Denmark? This is a small country with enormous history and influence.

Denmark has a boundary of less than 50 miles with Germany, and this is its only land connection with the European continent; for all else is bounded by the sea. And before recorded history, Vikings from Denmark (among other Scandinavian countries) roamed the seas in their long ships, making deep changes in European society, whether by violent marauding and pillage, trade or the founding of colonies. The crown of Denmark held sway over much of northern Europe in medieval times, owing to the Kalmar Union. In contrast to the bloodthirsty Viking ways, Denmark has grown through the centuries into a peaceful nation, known for its strong commitment to humanitarian approaches to domestic and global problems.

Did you know that the vast wilderness of Greenland - over 800,000 square miles (2000,000 kilometres) - is part of Denmark? Only the most intrepid will consider a vacation rental here, where the Eskimo (Inuit) dwell in coastal villages. But there are the Faroe Islands, too, far north in the Atlantic, whose people maintain their own language and culture. Both Greenland and the Faroes now enjoy autonomous rule. A diversity of peoples and cultures, then, mark Denmark out as a fascinating place in which to seek holiday rental homes.

But your Danish vacation rental will surely be in, or near, the magical capital city, Copenhagen, perching on the islands of Amager and Zealand. It dates from the 900s. Seek out Town Hall Square (Radhuspladsen), which has supplanted the nearby King’s New Square (1600s) as the heart of Copenhagen, and take in the Royal Theatre, and the two former palaces, Charlottenborg and Tholt, now the Royal Fine Art Academy and an embassy, respectively. Then head to the Castle Islet to see the Christiansborg Palace, now the home of the Danish Parliament.

If all of these old palaces are making you think of Hans Christian Andersen, promenade along Langelinie Pier to see the statue of the Little Mermaid. Why not look for vacation rentals among the picturesque homes along the seafront here, in Copenhagen’s unforgettable harbour? You might even toast wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen with a chilled Carlsberg, perhaps over a plateful of pickled salmon and rye bread; delicious flavours heightened by the salty sea air.

Indeed, many flavours, colours, sounds and memories will be yours with a holiday or vacation rental in Denmark.
