About Marana:
Marana Arizona is a fast growing area just to the north of Tucson, AZ. Marana has historically been an agricultural area with a large alluvial plain and abundant water supply for growing cotton, wheat, alfalfa. Pima Cotton is a famous label in clothing and Marana produces a large percentage of the cotton in Pima County. As the town expanded it annexed a large area up into the Tortolita Mountains and Marana is now 120 square miles in size. Population around 35,000. Driving up Interstate 10 to Phoenix takes 1 1/2 hours, 2 hours south on Interstate 19 gets you to Mexico.

The Tucson area is one of the best places in the USA to spend time in the winter. The AARP (retired people) magazine recently rated Tucson number one in "Best Places to Live". Tucson is famous as a destination for "snowbirds" to find sunny, temperate weather in the winter months. Typical days in the southwest desert in winter months have a high in the 60's Fahrenheit with a low in the 30's. Up on Dove Mountain at 2900 feet elevation, there are approximately 5 nights in the winter that temperatures drop below freezing. Maybe once or twice there is a dusting of snow, and then the surrounding mountains: The Santa Catalina's, the Tucson Mountain range and the Santa Rita's are magnificent with a snow covering. It is unbelievably beautiful to be playing golf in the 60's and look up at the mountains with a light blanket of snow.

Dove Mountain in Marana is a large developed area with communities for homes, golf courses and a retail center nestled into the Tortolita Mountains. There are several upscale gated golf course communities on Dove Mountain and a new Ritz Carlton hotel with 27 holes of golf. The Accenture Match Play tournament is hosted there each February for the worlds top 64 golfers. Heritage Highlands is a gated golf course community for "Active Adults 50 and older" with a championship 18 hole course and The Gallery has two private 18 hole golf courses. There are many hiking trails up into the mountains and biking is popular.
