Cómpeta is an entrancing village on the edge of the beautiful natural parks of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alham. . Less than one hours drive from Málaga airport and about half an hour from the beaches of the Costa del Sol. The village has several small supermarkets, three banks, a 3* hotel and there is a bus service to Málaga 3 times a day.
The pretty winding streets of the village are a joy to meander through, taking a break for coffee, drinks or tapas at any of the charming little bars and restaurants, browsing in one of the pretty craft shops before making your way home to your lovely villa to sunbathe beside the pool with nothing more to do than decide which one of the fabulous restaurants in the village you are going to visit that evening.
Driving around the area is a pleasure with the scenery changing at every turn. The Mediterranean , the impressive Sierras, vineyards, herds of goats, citrus trees, avocado trees and olive groves all can be seen in a very short drive.
Carnival in the village is at the end of July with a fairground in the village car park and concerts in the pretty central Plaza Almijara. The 15th August is the Noche del Vino ( the night of the wine) which is an all day party in the village celebrating the local harvest of grapes. Cómpeta wine is one of our local products and very popular with residents and tourists alike. Other local produce includes raisins, which can be seen drying in the grape drying beds at lots of the little country fincas, and honey.
For the more energetic Cómpeta offers rambling or hiking in the natural park. Horseriding, tennis, and a gym to shed those excess holiday pounds. For the golf enthusiast the Baviera golf course at Caleta de Velez is only half an hours drive. The beaches of the Costa del Sol, also only half an hour away have a wide range of water sports available.
A little further afield ( about two hours drive ) one can visit the magnificent gardens and palaces of the Alhambra in Granada or go skiing in the Sierra Nevada and still be back on your villa terrace for a sundowner.
A day out in Málaga can cater for the interests of any member of the family, boat trips around the bay of Málaga, shopping in the city centre, visiting the magnificent cathedral or the fabulous Picasso museum or just sitting watching the world go by at a street café
Cómpeta over the years has been a mecca for writers and artists and in many of the restaurants one can see paintings of local scenes for sale. A nice way of taking a little bit of your holiday home with you to remind you of our lovely village until you have the time to come back again.
