Half an hour from the city of Toulouse, the town of Mazeres is a great place to find a short term rental farmhouse allowing you to relax in the period settings, surrounded by the vista of the Pyrenees mountains. With opportunities for walks through the beautiful countryside, or even a trip through the nearby boarder to Spain and the Mediterranean which is only 30 minutes away!
A tranquil area in the French countryside, Mazeres dates back to the 13th Century and still features many interesting historic buildings today. The 16th Century Hotel d'Ardouin houses the Museum of Old Mazeres, a museum of Mazeres history featuring an exhibition of medieval weapons. The hotel also boasts a watchtower that overlooks the town. There's also the 17th Century church, and the 19th Century Great Hall which hosts the weekly traditional market. You can surround yourself in history with a privately owned Gite in Mazeres.
The local area also has several places of interest for you to discover. The capital of the Ariege region, Foix, lies just south of Mazeres. Featuring the imposing 9th Century Château de Foix, Foix is a wonderful way to see excellent examples of orignal architecture, as well as wonderful views of the Pyrenees mountains. There are some great self-catering farmhouses in Foix that you might enjoy.
The beautiful town of Saint Girons is nearby, lying in the shadow of Roman ruins of the ancient city of Saint-Lizier, St. Girons features stunning vistas of the countryside and has some great private rental Gites for you to think about.
