Michigan Vacation Rentals

Michigan borders on four of the five great lakes, those being Superior, Huron, Michigan and Erie. In fact, with the exception of Alaska, Michigan has more miles of coastline than any other US state – at over 3,000 miles and it also has nearly 12,000 inland lakes as well. Part of the reason for so much coastline is the fact that Michigan can be clearly divided into the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula, which protrude out into the lakes. Until 1957 the only way to drive between the peninsulas was to follow the coastline, but the Mackinac Bridge, designated the “longest suspension bridge between anchorages” changed that, connecting the two peninsulas.
Anyway, with so much water, Michigan offers just about every conceivable type of water activity. From water skiing to scuba diving and from wind surfing to power boating, this state has it covered. With the choice of so many beaches there are plenty of places to while away long summer days simply lazing around or perhaps trying a bit of fly fishing – although the more active might prefer the rigours of sport fishing. The Great Lakes State is a four season state so it is worth a visit in winter too and not just for summer fun. Michigan offers some of the best skiing around and is often rated the mid-west’s premier ski destination. There are many great resorts to cater for all sorts of skiing wants and whilst the downhill slopes are simply fantastic there is also the opportunity to try cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding and snow shoeing, and staying in a luxury ski cabin don't forget the off-piste fun with a little après ski!
But Michigan offers so much more too. Whether you are looking to simply amble through scenic countryside or go mountain biking over rough trails, there will be something for you. Hunters flock here from afar and there is wonderful fishing of all varieties. There are many interesting places to visit, such as Mackinac Island where you can take a trip back in time – imagine a place with no private motor vehicles!! There are the Porcupine mountains to see and here the natural world at its best, away from the daily grind of everyday life. Visit one of the national forests such as Manistee National Forest, or visit the Seney Wildlife Refuge. The list literally goes on forever.
Michigan also has many lively and happening cities. Detroit is probably most famous and offers everything you would expect from a large US city. Take in some jazz or try the outdoors market, eat, drink and be merry. Not to be outdone there is also Grand Rapids with its exciting nightlife, fine dining for all budgets, bars and galleries. There are fabulous shopping outlets all over, with chic boutiques and quaint antique stores dotted around. Michigan wine is also on the up – so why not try a bottle or two whilst visiting on your vacation rental.
