About Aberdeen & Grampian:

Aberdeen & Grampians Holiday Information and Travel Guide

Proudly straddling two rivers - the Dee and the Don - Aberdeen is a busy and important city, central both to the fishing industry in Scotland and to the North Sea oil business in Britain. A holiday rental in Aberdeen will introduce you to a modern Scotland with ancient roots; for Old Aberdeen is thought to date back to the year 580.

Why not wander the old streets around the Castlegate, near the city centre, and browse the market you’ll find there? It’s been there since 1686, so the traders must be reliable, you may think. Of course, it’s not as old as Provost Skene’s House (circa 1545) which is now, suitably enough, a museum of local history.

And there are other museums, there for you to enjoy with your Aberdeen vacation rental. Head to Shiprow, for example, to the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, to find out more about the sea trade and the quest for oil. Or, the military enthusiast might like to note that the Gordon Highlanders, one of the great Scots regiments, have their own museum here in Aberdeen. And it is fitting that a great university city like this should boast a great university museum: the Marischal, with its collection of about 80,000 exhibits. Indeed, Marischal College, in Broad Street, is thought to be the largest granite building in the world. Or, there’s Aberdeen Art Gallery.

If you tire of antiquity, you can revivify yourself at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival or the Jazz Festival; and you’ll find live music along Belmont Street’s bars. So whether you hanker after the lively or the stately, you’ll find that Aberdeen has much to delight those trying out holiday rentals here.

The Grampians form one of Scotland’s three main mountain ranges. The Roman historian Tacitus wrote of “Mons Graupius” in old Caledonia, although exactly which mount he referred to is a matter of dispute. The adaptation from “Graupius” to “Grampians” was made in 1520 by H Boece.

Why not roam these once war-torn hills and mountains from your Grampian vacation rental? Find peace in the seclusion of this thinly populated wilderness. Find excitement in its unspoiled wildness. Walk along the Tay or Spey, rivers whose waters have infused many famous highland malt whiskies with their unique character. Fortified with a wee dram, perhaps, crane your neck to marvel at awesome Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles. Indeed, you may even wish to climb this famous mountain. A great challenge is yours with a holiday rental in the Grampians.

Ancient history and modern trade; urban sophistication and wild nature. All of these are yours when you choose Aberdeen and the Grampians for your holiday or vacation rentals.
