Sitges is one of the most exciting and dynamic towns on the Mediterranean coast. Because of its cosmopolitan character, its extraordinary leisure and cultural offer and its lively night life, Sitges has become one of the most popular destinations on the Catalan coast.
Location Sitges is 35 km south of Barcelona with excellent access either by rail or road. El Prat International Airport is only 20 km heading for Barcelona whereas Reus Airport is 70 km to the south.
When to go Sitges can be visited at any time of the year because of the exceptional weather conditions in the area, with an average of more than 300 sunny days per year. Undoubtedly, summer is the season with more tourists but the bustling activity continues when hot days are over and entertainment and cultural offer is available throughout the year.
What to do The 17 beaches stretching along 4 km of coast and its impressive seaside promenade are the main attractions in Sitges, but not the only ones.
The city, which keeps the charm of the old fishing village, offers to visitors an imposing architectural and cultural patrimony due to the initiative of artists and patrons such as Santiago Rusiñol, Miquel Utrillo or Charles Deering. They have made of Sitges a landmark for writers, musicians and other intellectuals who have turned the city into an important center of Modernism diffusion. On the other hand, Americans who took advantage of the American dream have hired modernist architects to build grand mansions, contributing to the artistic patrimony of Sitges. The museums, the guided excursions or the strolls through the Old Town are an opportunity to admire this important legacy.
Sitges has 3 museums: the Cau Ferrat Museum, home-studio writer and artist Santiago Rusiñol, the Maricel del Mar Museum, which exhibits art collections from the Romanesque period until the XIX Century, and the Romantic-Can Llopis Museum, which shows what the XIX Century homes were like and includes a collection of antique dolls.
Sitges is also the ideal destination for good food and party lovers, since the gastronomic offer is of great quality with numerous bars, terraces and discos of international prestige, such as Pachá or La Atlántida which holds the famous foam party.
Sport facilities in Sitges include Terramar Golf Club, Sporting Marina of Aiguadolc, several nautical clubs and gyms, three equestrian centers, one bowling alley , two football fields and two swimming-pools.
