Iceland's capital and largest city, Reykjavik makes the ideal Icelandic holiday destination with plenty to do and see during your stay in a in a privately owned flat.
The beautiful city is perfect to walk around, with all the best attractions within easy walking distance from each other. You could spend hours just walking around Reykjavik's Old Town, or see more modern architecture with the Hallgrímskirkja church that took 38 years to build and makes a great observation point where you can see the city and the surrounding Esja mountains. Another great spot to see the amazing views of Reykjavik is the Perlan (Pearl) building which has a 84.3 ft high viewing deck as well as souvenir shops, a revolving restaurant and the Saga museum which shows you the history of Iceland.
The city has other museums for you to see, including the National Museum of Iceland, The Culture House which has one of the most important collections of medieval manuscripts in the world and the Reykjavik Museum of Photography. You can also spend time at the Reykjavík Domestic Animal Zoo.
One important part of the Icelandic experience is the Geo-Thermal Swimming Pools, which make a great way to relax while in Reykjavik. The city has several geo-thermal pools, both indoors and outdoors, with some having water slides and steam baths. There's even the Nautholsvik Thermal Beach where they pipe hot water into the Atlantic Ocean to make the perfect swimming experience.
With a self catering apartment in Reykjavik you can quickly go out into the countryside that surrounds the city. There's hiking tours in the nearby mountains, as well as horse riding and white water rafting. There are also whale watching tours out from the harbor, allowing you to see these wonderful creatures!
If you're looking to explore the Icelandic countryside, there's plenty of places outside of the city where you can see the beauty of this country. A private cottage in Husavik is a great base to go out and explore the sights of the county.
