Neuendettelsau was first mentioned as early as 1141 and was built around a castle which belongd to the nobility of Vestenberg, the Lords von Seckendorff and the Barons of Eyb. The most famous Knight and Minnesänger of the area is Wolfram von Eschenbach, best known for his “Parzifal”, having as it’s subject the “Holy Grail” and whose birthtown, near Neuendettelsau, is named after him. Wolframs-Eschenbach hosts a fascinating museum and medieval buildings, just as other towns nearby offer the traveler many interesting places to visit: Rococo city Ansbach: Home of Margraves and the Hohenzollern, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Nuremberg, Dinkelsbühl, etc. Neuendettelsau is ideally located in the very heart of all those historical sights and embedded into a lovely nature, not too far from the Franconian lakes, the bizarre mountains and caves of “Fränkische Schweiz” or the wildromantic rivervalleys of the “Altmühl”.
