The Cayman Islands are located 480 miles south of Miami, FL. Cayman Brac lies 89 miles east-northeast of Grand Cayman. Little Cayman lies 5 miles to the west of Cayman Brac ~ a short boat ride or flight away.
Visited by Columbus in 1503, the Brac (which is Gaelic for bluff) was named for the bluff running down the centre of the island, rising from sea level at the west end to a height of 140 feet at the island's east end. The island is 12 miles long by 1 mile wide.
Pirates frequented the island, attracted by its safe anchorages and fresh water. Numerous caves dot the bluff walls, which also made it an ideal vault for secreting their booty. Rumours of hidden treasure still lost from the days of Blackbeard abound. With less than 2,000 permanent residents Cayman Brac offers visitors a relaxed, tranquil atmosphere in which to enjoy the Brac's fabulous walls and reefs , white-sand beaches and spectacular scenery.
Located at 10 º north latitude the Cayman Islands have a temperate climate. Temperatures average in the low to mid 80's from May through August and in the mid-70's during the September through April period.

Visitors to Cayman Brac can choose from a variety of accommodations depending on their preferences. Vacation rental properties, a dive resort, a boutique hotel as well as private guest cottages and rental homes are all available on Cayman Brac. Reef Divers provides valet diving, operating from the south side of Cayman Brac a short distance from Carib Sands Beach Resort. The Brac also has a number of excellent locations for shore dives from which they can access both shallow reefs and walls. Shore divers can explore Cayman Brac's "Lost City of Atlantis" a large, underwater, multi-piece sculpture by a local artist, known simply as “Foots”. This "work in progress" was awarded Scuba Diving Magazine's Editor's Choice Award for Best New Artificial Reef in 2005. The Atlantis dive site in located near Radar Reef, which is on the north side of the island in Stake Bay and can be accessed via car by turning north on Kirkconnell Drive at the Cayman Brac Museum.
Visitors reach Cayman Brac via Grand Cayman. Cayman Brac is serviced by Cayman Airways, the national carrier of the Cayman Islands, which also operates Cayman Airways Express using 19 passenger De Havilland Twin Otter 300 aircraft to provide daily flights between Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
Cayman Airways operates early evening flights (using Boeing 737-200 aircraft) to Cayman Brac from Grand Cayman on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Cayman Airways operates early morning flights (using Boeing 737's) between Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Cayman Airways Express (a division of Cayman Airways) operates five daily flights between Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac and two daily flights between Cayman Brac and Little Cayman using DeHavilland Twin Otter 300 aircraft. The airline also flies direct to Grand Cayman from Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Miami and Tampa.
In addition to Cayman Airways all major U.S air carriers as well as British Airways and Air Canada provide service to Grand Cayman.
US, British and Canadian citizens, and citizens of British Dependent Territories do not require passports, but must present proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate and current photo ID. A driver's license or voter's registration card alone is not sufficient) and a return or ongoing airline ticket. Arriving visitors may bring in duty-free any personal items for use while on vacation. In addition, visitors 18 and older can bring in duty-free either one litre of alcohol, four litres of wine or one case of beer (not exceeding eight litres) and 200 cigarettes, or 25 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco. The currency of the Cayman Islands is the Cayman Islands dollar (CI$). The Cayman dollar is fixed at a value of $1.25 U.S. Dollars, therefore 1 U.S. dollar is worth 80 ¢ C.I. Goods and services are priced in Cayman dollars, but U.S. dollars are readily accepted by merchants and restaurants and converted at the set rate of 1.25 U.S.$ = $1.00 C.I. British pounds sterling and Canadian dollars are not readily accepted, but can be exchanged for Cayman dollars at local banks.
