If you know where you want to go
Firstly, start by choosing an area of the world on the front page map, drilling down to a region. Or enter a part of your destination name in the search box on the menu bar. Once you locate a destination that you are interested in, check out any featured property adverts at the top of the page, or our premium listings highlighted in yellow. Use the filter options at the top of the page to remove properties that do not have features that match the criteria that you require - for example have a pool, have Internet access, or are near a beach. Click on the property thumbnail images for more information about the property.

If you know what you want to do
If you are feeling more adventurous then just search for a keyword - like scuba - to find all properties that contain scuba in their description. Or you can navigate down to a part of the world (continent, country, or even town) and then search for your keyword like riding to display all properties that have “riding” in their description.

Vacationrentalpeople.com is purely an advertising medium for connecting renters to rental property owners - we do not get involved in negotiations or the contractual chain. We take no fees from the renter so you can cut out the middle man and deal direct with the owner.

The owner’s contact details are supplied on the property advert page when you press the “show contact details” button. Depending on the owner’s choice, you can contact them by email and/or by telephone.
What do I expect from the owner?
After confirming the availability of the property and any special requirements that you have (pets, disabilities, allergies) the owner will usually send you a contract to sign. The contract would typically contain details of:

• Owner contact details (name, address and telephone)
• Your check in and check out dates and times
• Full details of the property, including driving directions.
• Contact details for their agent who manages the property, if it is not the same as above.
• A breakdown of the fees to be charged, including any taxes if appropriate.
• A breakdown of any extras that may be incurred or charged for. For example, heating fuel,
  linen hire
• A list of items that are NOT supplied that you are required to bring yourself
• A list of any special terms that apply - i.e. Non smoking, no pets, no “all youth” parties etc.
• How you pay for your rental home
• Normally a deposit will be required to secure the home, and then full payment will be made when, or shortly before, you arrive at the property. A refundable security deposit is often required to protect the owner against any damage that may occur to the property during your stay.
• Cancellation and refund policy. Normally owners will supply a refund for a given period of time before the commencement of your stay. Carefully read all contracts and terms for refund policies.
• Most of the advertisers rent out their property on a regular basis and will supply accurate and reasonable contract terms.
• Please ensure that you are satisfied with the contractual terms that you are entering into. Vacationrentalpeople.com Ltd is strictly an advertising source and has no control or responsibility nor can enter into any correspondance regarding contracts that our advertisers may use.
• Remember - Do not pay by “instant cash” transfer services like Western Union or Moneygram. Do not pay to a third party.
• Pay by credit card when you can as this offers you maximum protection.

Before you leave make sure that you have all contact details for the owner. If the owner is not local, then make sure you have the contact details for their local representative. You should also confirm with the local representative before leaving to check you have the right information. Vacation Rental People.com is merely an advertising site and so is unable to respond to problems on arrival.

Most importantly, speak to the owner on the telephone. By all means conduct your enquiries by email and get information in writing, but before handing over any money we strongly recommend that you call the owner (not get them to call you) and discuss the property with them. You can judge a lot more about someone from their voice and manner rather than through the anonymity of the Internet - genuine owners will know the property and the area in detail Be very wary of owners that will not give out a phone number, or claim to be out of the country. If they have access to their email, they can get access to a telephone!

Ask the owner for testimonials from previous guests and contact details for some. Follow up and take the time to contact them - again, ideally by telephone.

Make sure you ask for a contract that sets out in details all the terms and conditions. This should cover cancellation terms, security deposits and breakages, insurance etc.

Find out where else they advertise or if they are a member of a local body or are listed with local tourist services.

Check the Internet to see if there is any adverse publicity about them - search for their phone number!
If you are not sure, or you have a bad feeling, trust your instincts and choose a different property.
We do not recommend that you send money by high street money transfer agencies (e.g. Western Union). These are not secure methods and are largely untraceable - somewhat similar to handing over cash to a stranger - and so would be almost impossible to recover should there be a problem.
